Open Arms Lutheran Church
Who We Are
Open Arms - our name says something about who we are. Our basic conviction is that God loves all people and that the Lord is doing a new thing among us. We are oriented towards service in our community - doing God's work with our hands.
We are a congregation under development in the Northern Illinois Synod of the ELCA. Our informal, friendly and traditional style of worship involves people of all ages. Scripture is read and Holy Communion is celebrated every Sunday. We sing both traditional hymns and contemporary worship songs. We love to linger over coffee after service.
We are a small church - and we believe that gives us some unique gifts to offer. For example: in our congregation young and old get to know each other and worship together. Studies have shown that genuine relationship with older adults who aren't their parents is a key to youth choosing to stay invovled at church. We can offer that! Everyone in our community has the chance to be known and feel loved.
We also have found that because we are small everyone's gifts are important and valued, and our focus is outwardly directed to serving our community and connecting with those in need. We don't have a lot of committees to run our own programs - we do have a lot of opportunities to do what you do well to benefit the wider world.
We would love to have you come join us on our journey!
